The Ibaraki Network News Letter vol.1 ~the First Part

~The News Letter on 16th July of preparatory meeting for the Ibaraki Network for Rescuing/Preserving Historical Materials and Cultural Properties~

1.The Notification for Establishing Ibaraki Network

The Network for historical materials has at last been established in Ibaraki Prefecture. The activities which had started right after the quake with passing out the leaflets to people by me and my fellows as a voluntary activity have grown to a semi-formal group with much approval from inside and outside of the prefectures.

As for the formal name of our Network, we added the word ‘Cultural Properties’ following the ‘Historical Materials’. It is because we want to cooperate with the various rescue activities which treat the cultural properties. The title of ‘Preparatory meeting’ is still attached. This is the message which informs you that we will work as a part of the activity for supporting reconstruction from the damage of the East Japan Earthquake for the time being, and we will postpone arranging the appearance as a formal organisation.

Different from the conventional study societies which the representative persons or organisers make the activity policy, our role will be to unite the people who have an intention to work voluntarily for the rescuing historical materials beyond the positions or study fields. As we published the agreement which you may already see, we decided not to place any posts such as representative so as to express our abovementioned purpose. The reason why we do not collect the membership fee is because we don’t want to additionally collect from you who have already participated in some voluntary work at your own expense. Depending on each person’s will and conditions, we will welcome your donations. Shortly our bank account will be opened, so if you can possibly contribute to our cause, we will appreciate your support.

The secretariat office will be composed of me and Ms Emi Takamura and other postgraduate students in Ibaraki University. We will irregularly dispatch the news letters, and will inform you our activity report and upcoming schedule. We will be also advertising for voluntary workers. And also, we will publish the information from the members.

We are still an inexperienced Network which is still in its beginning stages. Although we will need a lot of attempts, we will greatly appreciate your further guidance and encouragement from now on.

Professor Osamu Takahashi, a secretarial office of Ibaraki Network
