Yamagata Network’s Activity Report and Objective~Part16

—About our activities as from 10th July

Introduction

The new fellows are continuously increasing in each workshop. We are extremely glad. There are no prescribed numbers of regular personnel and we never require any specific skills or licences. Please come and join us at your pleasure.

Anyway, this week I presented our activities in a lecture of the Yonezawa Women’s Junior College(hereafter, YWJC). Every year many students fell asleep due to my boring lecture though, this year no one did, moreover everyone concentrated on my story and didn’t  whisper throughout! (Maybe my public speaking is getting better?! Ha,ha!)

Observing the action of students or other people who participate in our cleaning operations in each area, I imagine that it might be a turning point in various fields of activity concerned with the history or cultural properties in Yamagata.

Shortly, the cleaning operation for the Miyagi Prefectural Agricultural High School’s Library books will be finished, and we have partially started to clean the historical materials of Rikuzentakada City, Iwate Prefecture.

It will be time for an overhaul of the freeze dry machine in the Tohoku University of Arts and Design(hereafter, TUAD), which has contributed the most to our activity these months. Everybody, every machine, good job! And I really appreciate all of you.

[Last week’s Activity Report]

1. On 10th July, we reported our activities in the Research Conference for Region History in Yamagata.
2. On 11th July, we held the cleaning operation in the evening in Yamagata University.
3. On 12th and 14th of July, we carried out the cleaning operation in TUAD.
4. On 14th July, we presented the activity report in YWJC.
5.  We conducted the cleaning operation in YWJC.
6. We appealed for the BBQ exchange party on 24th July and informed about the regular meeting.
7. We arranged procedures to receive donations from the Japanese Association of Museums.
8. As from 12th July, we started to take measures against the mosquitoes and other insects.

[This Week’s Objective]

1. On 18th July, we will participate in the rescue operation carried out by the Miyagi Network for Preserving Historical Materials.
2. On 19th and 21th of July, we will carry out the cleaning operation in TUAD.
3. On 22th July, the cleaning operation in YWJC will be done in the evening.
4. As much as I can, I will try to update the information of our web page.

[The Postscript, about the suspension of the cleaning operation]

August will soon be upon us. The operation in the evenings is smoothly advancing, and the drying operations for the Miyagi Prefectural Agricultural High School’s Library books has finished (a little of the cleaning operation still remains). After a short rest, we will tackle the next issue.

As for the notation, it will be formally determined in the regular meeting on 24th July, we are now thinking of the suspension of the operations in TUAD on the following schedule.

Date: From 12th to 20th of August (The last working day will be on 11th, and will reopen on 23th)

Except for the abovementioned period, we will generally carry out the cleaning operations on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We would like to keep working at a reasonable pace. If you have a spare time, please join our activity at your convenience. If anyone students or others in their summer vacation, who thinks that this will indeed be a good time to make a contribution, want to work with us please contact us. We will discuss about the schedule changes.

With regard to the cleaning operation in YWJC, we will inform you later. The secretariat office will remain open without a day off.
